Darlene Amaya Post 1

I really enjoyed the presentations. The topics were super interesting, and my classmates were really creative, clever, and their productivity was amazing. They used interesting vocabulary and they put pictures which called the audience attention. The groups did a really good job. The presentations were visually stunning.

In the first presentation I learned very interesting topics that I will keep in mind. They were: Getting started to public speaking, preparing your first presentation, selecting a topic and purpose, analyzing your audience. I learned that in public speaking we learned to listen to others. And also, how to become an effective speaker. I learned how public speaking is a unique form of communication for several reasons. How being a first time speaker is exciting and most of the time we get nervous and that is extremely normal. But we learned some tips that helps us reduce our fear of presenting.

        1.    Challenge your worries

        2.    Focus on the materials less on the audience

   3.    Take a deep breath this can be very calming

    4.    Avoid eye contact make you less anxious

    5.    Practice in the mirror or in front of a family member

These are some tips that really call my attention and I will practice before my next presentation. I loved the tips.

There is also four different types of presentations Impromptu presentations, presenting yourself, presenting a classmate and demonstration presentations without preparation. Meaning you need to organize your ideas in less than 5 minutes before presenting. Some tips I learned are to focus your message, think about the audience and just be you! Another type of presentations is presenting yourself this action is made with the purpose how other people see you in which you describe your background, hobbies and interests. Tips: develop structure, focus on small details, be thoughtful. The third presentation is presenting a classmate usually during this type of presentation you are asked to interview a classmate and create a presentation about that person. Tips: plan interview questions, record answers, start with the basics, be ethical. A demonstration presentation is a type of presentation in which your goal is to teach a task to the audience. Tips: organize logically, use visual aids, explain the value of the presentation, invite the audience to ask questions. When we talk about impromptu presentation means that is a speech that a person provides.

During the second presentation which was group number two, it was basically finding information and supporting your ideas, organizing and outlining your presentation delivering speeches, choosing your words, visual resources and presentation technology. I learned how effective speakers achieve success with well-crafted presentations that contains good evidence and support. To cite a text correctly APA format and MLA format. When identifying appropriate supporting materials examples there are two types factual and hypothetical. Surveys the audience believes that surveys are more credible than just the opinion of 1 person specifically. Testimony there are three kinds of testimonial evidence lay testimony, expert testimony celebrity testimony. The ethical presenters must be able to present the best possible sources of the information being presented. Speaker has the obligation of citing the sources used for information. The principles of outlining the first principle allows you to indicate which material is important and which is less important through indentation and symbols. Division is the second principle which states that the point is divided.I also learned delivering speeches memorized mode involves presenting based on strictly memory, this enables full use of delivery speeches, on the downside this mode can be too rigid. Manuscript mode a presentation mode involving reading out a pre prepared manuscript verbatim. Extemporaneous mode a predicated presentation giving with only a keyboard outline. Impromptu presentation this mode requires little no preparation time. This can be seen as advantageous specially since its more spontaneous. To use your voice effectively rate is the speed of delivery. Also pause for a brief silence for effect, duration how long something lasts, rhythm the tempo of the speech, volume the loudness of softness of your voice, enunciation the pronunciation and articulation of words, fluency the smoothness of delivery.

In the third presentation I learned about, presenting to inform. During this presentation present to inform, presenting persuasive messages, speaking on special occasions, appendix-working and presenting as a group. The first principles of learning build on the known, humor and wit, sensory aids. Organize to optimize learning create an outline to create a skeleton of the information. I learned to inform the topic how can you relate to this topic relate the presenter and the audience to the topic. Grabs people’s attention arouse the audience, courtesy, and interest about your topic. Understand the information state and repeat the main idea and generalize the information in the presentation. Present ideas in a simple and concrete way. Relate the topic the topic to the audience. Make the audience a part of the presentation. Remember the information reveal the audience what you want them to learn from your presentation. Indicate what information you want your audience to remember. Repeat the main idea two or three times during the presentation. Pause and use gestures to indicate the importance of the information. Apply the information applied immediately is remember longer. An action trying under supervision is more likely to be tried again later. Organize, this is to make the information easy to understand. Using reliable sources, do not spread false information. Stages of preparing a presentation group should prepare themselves with certain stages when arranging their presentation. First agreeing on a topic, dividing responsibilities, assigning presentation roles, quality control.

All the groups presented awesome I learn new things and saved tips to become a better speaker and how to lose fear while talking in public. It was nice that they took the time to present and that we all learn from each other. They put a lot of work on their slides I liked the way they put pictures and the text was very clearly and understandable.
